A surprise was in store for Past President Susan Morgans at the Club’s Recognition Night on 28th April 2023.
Rotary was founded in Chicago in 1905, by a gentleman named Paul Harris and Rotary established the Paul Harris Fellowship in his honour in 1957. The award is mainly made to Rotarians to recognise their work to foster the ideal of ‘service above self’ and promote its values, one of which is to encourage the ideal of service to the community.
Throughout her life, Susan has been well known in her community and beyond for her charitable work and helping others, she has great difficulty in saying no! She has championed countless causes, arranging shows and events, which were always well supported locally. Her community work made her an ideal member of Rhondda Rotary, which she joined in October 2010 and became the Club’s first female President in July 2017. She worked for HSBC for many years and used the bank’s charity process to benefit Rhondda Rotary and its causes. She was elected as the Councillor for Ferndale in 2017 and although she represents a political party, she sees her role as helping those in the community that most need it, which is no different to her lifetime philosophy. As a member of Rhondda Rotary, she has over the past few years been the leader of the membership group and has and continues to encourage new members to join. She organises Club events, like the annual Christmas dinner, Ascot Day and this evening’s event. In recognition of this ongoing achievement, Rhondda Rotary considers that Susan Morgans is a worthy recipient of the Paul Harris Fellowship, as she has and continues to demonstrate outstanding qualities in her commitment to Rotary, the Club and the community in general.
