Rhondda Rotary held the local round of the Rotary Young Musician competition on Wednesday 6th November at the Morlais Hall Ferndale. With the demise of the Rotary Clubs of Aberdare and Llantrisant, Rhondda is now the only active Club in the Rhondda Cynon Taf area. With this in mind, invitations were sent to schools across RCT. This resulted in 7 instrumental competitors, ranging drums, electric guitar, piano and cello and 9 vocal competitors. The standard was extremely high, the audience was treated to many excellent performances and the adjudicators had a really difficult job in selecting the winners. These were:
Instrumentalist – William Richard Berry (electric guitar), Treorchy Comprehensive School)
Vocalist – Vivienne Evans-Lees (Ysgol Gyfun Cwm Rhondda), last year’s winner.
Both the winners will now proceed to the Area finals and we wish them every success.
A big thank you to the adjudicators Fred Nicholas and Brian James and to the accompanist Stewart Roberts, they continue to give their time and commitment to support aspiring young musicians in the area.
Also a big thank you to the Morlais Hal, Ferndale for once again hosting the competition.
